The beginning of the business group goes back to the year 1965 when its founder, Valentín Cantergiani, inaugurates a food market with the name “Establecimientos Montecarlo” which had a surface of 38m2 and two workers.
With the pass of the years, several other markets are inaugurated, and on the year 1982, the group decides to transform one of his most emblematic markets, located on the center of Santiago, into a supermarket, calling it Supermercados Montecarlo.
On year 2004 this chain was already one of the most important of the country, it counted with more than 16 sale points, annual sales of more than USD235 millions and more than 3.000 workers. It was characterized by being one of the most efficient supermarket chains on the country.
On November of year 2004, the group decides to sale his retail operation to the company Cencosud, keeping the property of the businesses and commercial centers, which where rented.
This way, the company Inversiones Valcan is created, which main target is to manage the cash flow product of this sale operation. |
